Popponesset beaches are private, and only homeowners and their guests have the right to access the beaches. Homeowners within the designated boundaries of the Popponesset Beach Association are considered PBA members, and have deeded beach rights to the Popponesset Beaches. The PBA maintains our beach access through use of beach flags, issued annually to our members, and through supervision by our security team.
POPPONESSET BEACH ASSOCIATION FLAGS
Beach flags are a way to conveniently and easily signal to security patrols and others that those using the beach have a right to be there. PBA came up with the flag system and the use of security as a way to protect your rights to the beach. PBA is sending flags this summer to PBA members in good standing (those who have paid their full dues/fees/charges and assessments). For more information on your flag, reach out to Kelly Spinard, Treasurer, or Joe Parlavecchio, Assistant Treasurer, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Year after year, we have experienced increases in the number of people using our beaches who don't have deeded beach rights. We have also experienced an increase in non-Poppy residents asking to buy a membership to PBA and pay large sums to become members, which is a signal to us that our beaches are sought after by others. There are increased numbers of parked cars on our roads and drop-offs of people going to the beach without permission. Please note that we have had increased security over the years to address these problems,
If you see people who you know don’t belong, feel free to mention it to a security team member. They will be walking the beach regularly this summer. Our security company this year is Amity Security.
