PBA Beaches

Why do I need a Beach Flag on the beach?
Popponesset beaches are private for the use of PBA members and their tenants/guests. Beach Flags are a convenience so that we, and our paid security who monitor the beach, can easily identify members. For more information see: PBA Rules/Beach Access/Flags
Who pays for security?
PBA pays for security during the summer through our member dues and fees. PBA also may hire police officers for details during high season when extra security is needed. Occasionally the Mashpee Police Department is in the Community in their regular course of duty to assist us in keeping the area safe. See: PBA Security
can I walk my dog on the beach?
No, dogs are not allowed on PBA beaches at any time of the year, on season or off, in accordance with the Mashpee town regulations. See: Dogs Restrictions
Can I have a fire on the beach?
Can I pitch a tent on the beach?

No fires, overnight tents, or overnight sleeping are allowed on the beach.  Small sun tents can be used during the day, in the same way umbrellas are used, as protection from sun/wind. All such items should be removed at the end of the day.
Are boats allowed on the beach?
Motorboats cannot be launched from bathing beaches. A small sailboat such as a Sunfish may be launched from the beach as long as it is done with great caution to protect beach goers and swimmers. For more information see: Boats on the Beach
Can I hold an organized party or a wedding on the beach?
Homeowners planning an organized party or event on the beach must notify the PBA and meet requirements for gatherings prior to making definite plans. See: Events and Gatherings

The Community House may be available for rent by PBA members. For information: Contact Us
Can I leave things on the beach overnight?
There is no overnight storage of tents, furniture, kayaks, water toys, boats, paddle-boards or other equipment on the beach – please remove all your belongings at the end of the day.
How can I join or become a member of Popponesset Beach?
How can I get a beach flag?
Can I get a day pass to the beach?
The beaches are private for the use of Popponesset homeowners and their guests only. Beach flags are issued each year to homeowners who are paid up in their dues. We do not sell membership, beach passes, beach flags or beach access to the public. There are beaches in the area, such as South Cape Beach, that are open to the public. See: PBA Rules/Beach Access/Flags

Dean Pond

Can I use a boat on Dean pond?
Yes, small row boats are allowed on the pond. No motorized boats are allowed.
Is there fishing on Dean Pond?
Yes, fishing is allowed, catch and release is preferred, and usually takes place near the foot bridge.  Keep in mind the pond is not stocked, so fishing is predominately done as a leisure activity by the children, with parental supervision if needed.  Please be respectful of the catch and release approach. See Dean Pond.

More Questions

How is trash pick-up arranged for our home?
Trash pick-up is the homeowner's responsibility. One option is to purchase a Dump Sticker at Town Hall and haul yourself. There are several private companies that come into Popponesset and provide varied service plans for trash pick-up. You may call Mashpee Town Hall for a list of providers.
What are the hours people can do construction?
What are the hours landscapers can work?
We ask that work be done during the week, and it is recommended that it not start before 8 AM and be completed by 5 PM.  We encourage that major construction be avoided between the beginning of July to middle August.

Landscaping should not start before 8 AM, and we ask that it be done during the weekdays.  We understand that homeowners may not have the opportunity to mow their lawns (or use leaf-blowers) during the week, so we suggest, as a courtesy to our neighbors, that it be done after 8 AM on Saturdays and if possible not on Sunday giving us a quiet day for all to enjoy.
Can I pitch a tent in my backyard?
First and foremost, we want to keep our community safe, peaceful and enjoyable for all. Small tents are okay for a short period of time, as long as they are used within reason, and that their use does not create a disturbance.
Can I store a camper at my house?
Can I keep a boat in my yard?
PBA does not have the ability to restrict what members choose to park on their property. The Town of Mashpee has ordinances that apply to RV's and campers, for instance people may not stay in an RV parked on your property. The Town also has setback requirements and requires homeowners get approval for anything that will be residing on their property for more than a brief period of time.

Please keep safety in mind with any unsupervised items - large structures such as boats or trailers may create a hazard for children who could possibly fall or be injured. Contact the Mashpee Town Manager's office for more information.
