Popponesset Beach Association Rules and Regulations
- Private beach - Please be prepared to show your beach flag to the security team while on the beach. PBA beaches are private for the exclusive use of Popponesset homeowners and their guests. Access is controlled by our security team and PBA Beach Flags (not photos or copies) are required for identification. See: Beach Access/Flags
- No drop-offs by vehicles at beaches at any time. Beach use is available to residents by walking in only. Streets may not be used as drop-off points for the beaches and there is no public parking in Popponesset.
- Swim at your own risk. There are no lifeguards on Popponesset beaches.
- No alcoholic beverages, no smoking or vaping are allowed on the beaches at any time.
- Remove your trash from the beaches. Barrels at beach entrances are to be used for beach trash only.
- Beach curfew: There is a 10:00 PM noise curfew on Popponesset beaches, and curfew at dusk at the Spit. Violators will be removed by Security and Mashpee police.
- Overnight sleeping is not allowed on the beaches by the Town of Mashpee.
- Storage on the beach: Please don't leave items on the beach overnight. Storage of furniture, inflatables, kayaks, catamarans, paddle-boards or personal belongings is not permitted on Popponesset beaches. Sunfish may be stored against the walls, by PBA homeowners only, but may not be tied or locked to PBA stairs.
- Kites and ball playing on the beaches is allowed only after 5:00 PM. No drone flying, fires, cooking or camping are allowed on the beach at any time.
- Motorized vehicles, bikes, scooters, golf carts: All motorized vehicles must obey traffic rules and speed limits of 15 MPH. Golf carts and other motorized vehicles must be licensed and "street legal." No motorized vehicles are allowed on beaches at any time.
- Events/Gatherings: Events must be planned with consideration for the beach rights of all homeowners and comply with all PBA rules. Contact PBA for consent prior to holding any organized event, party or gathering on the beach such as a wedding, graduation, etc. See Events and Gatherings
- Boats: Motorboats and water skiers must operate at a safe distance, minimum of 150 feet from the shoreline. Motorboats cannot be launched from bathing beaches. Please be extra cautious of bathers when using any water toys and equipment such as paddleboards, rafts, windsurfing boards, etc.
- Dogs/Pets: Dogs and pets are not allowed on the beach at any time of the year, leashed or unleashed, per the Town of Mashpee and a vote of PBA members. Report any violations to the Mashpee Animal Control Officer at 508-539-1442. Please keep our community healthy and safe - leash your dog and clean up after your pet! See: Dogs Restrictions
- No on-street parking in Popponesset. Homeowners may park at their own property only, provided a current PBA Parking Sticker is displayed on the car, and at least two wheels are on the lawn to allow emergency vehicles to pass. No on-street parking is permitted on Shore Drive at any time. Unauthorized vehicles will be subject to towing at vehicle owner's expense. See: Parking and Towing
- Bikes, rollerblades, etc: All riders should wear helmets when using bikes, rollerblades, scooters, etc. Remind children to stop at stop signs and intersections. Please drive with caution. See Bike Safety.
- Parking at the Fishermens Landing lot on Wading Place Road is allowed for the purpose of shore fishing only, to permitted fishermen with a current saltwater fishing permit on display on their vehicle. Parking at the lot is limited to 6 cars and to the hours between 5:00 AM and 9:30 PM. Between the hours of 9:30 PM and 5:00 AM, parking may be available at the Community House based on availability and Community House events and with a current PBA Parking Permit and fishing permit on display. - Noise curfew: There is a 10:00 PM noise curfew in Mashpee.
- Construction: PBA requests construction work start no earlier than 7:30 AM and end no later than 6:00 PM.
- Vista Pruning: Vista pruning on property bordering wetlands and coastal areas, including Dean Pond and the beaches, requires the prior approval of the Mashpee Conservation Commission and the PBA. It is the property owner's responsibility to determine boundary lines and gain appropriate approvals before proceeding with any work on property abutting roads or PBA property. See: Vista Pruning
