Popponesset Cookout - Goodbye to Summer 2023!

9/4/2023

We had perfect weather and a great turnout on Saturday night September 2nd for our first PBA End of Summer Cookout since before Covid. Thank you to the many eager volunteers who showed up to make the night a success. It still feels like summer, but soon things will revert to the quieter off-season as we move into Fall. Thanks everyone for another great summer of Poppy memories!

Thank You Popponesset Volunteers!

Our community runs on volunteer energy! We are a collection of homes, but more than that we are a group of neighbors who make this community run. There are many ways to join the group and help keep our little community the wonderful, unique place that we all love.

On April 22nd many helpers showed up all around Popponesset to pick up litter, fix road signs, and help us get ready for the Summer. That evening we met at the Community House to share a potluck meal and socialize with new and old friends. We welcome all members to join the fun and help with our activities and programs.

We have several events planned in the coming months including the July 4th Field Day and Parade, our annual road race, the summer children's sports and activies, and more. Please reach out to the PBA with an email if you would like to be more involved. Contact Us.

Katie Dalaklis cuts the ribbon to re-open the Community House after our 8-month renovation project
After 8 months of diligent work, this morning we hosted our Spring Homeowner's meeting in our totally renovated Community House. The building project addressed major necessary maintenance issues in the sixty-odd year-old building such as a leaky roof, inadequate insulation and ventilation, plumbing and electrical, as well as improvements like ADA accessible bathrooms and improved storage. We are delighted with the resulting clean, bright, airy, modern space that we hope will serve the community for decades to come and help create lots of great Popponesset memories to treasure. The project was funded by member donations and operating funds and was led by a team of diligent volunteers who contributed not only money, but guidance, research, creative interior design, and hours of hands-on labor.

It takes teamwork! A dedicated team of volunteers made the project possible!

Summer Start-up!

The past  two years our calendar of events was interrupted by the necessary precautions for Covid-19 so we are especially excited to announce the return of this year's Basketball Tournament June 30th & July 1st (Boys Thursday at 10:45  & Girls at Friday 10:45), as well as  the Fourth of July celebration which will begin with the parade at 9 AM and Field Day following right after. Everyone is encouraged to join the parade with hats, horns, banners, flags, fancy cars, pets, bikes, balloons, and whatever ways you will express yourself!

The Community House opens June 27th for the start of our regular summer schedule of sports,  activities and events. Come down and check it out - we think you will be delighted!

VOLUNTEERS
Each summer we host activities at the Community House that are a treasured feature and tradition in Popponesset. We have many opportunities for children and adult volunteers to join in the fun and help make this summer a success. Please contact us by email or come by the Community House if you’d like to get involved. For a list of this summer’s events you can see the calendar of activities on our website  at: CALENDAR.

EMPLOYMENT
Each year we are also able to engage some of our young helpers with greater responsibilities and reward them with compensation for their work. The need for these paid helpers depends on the calendar and how many events and participants we have. Priority for these jobs is given to young people who have shown an interest in helping with House events by volunteering and being involved in previous years.

Kids who are interested in paid jobs at the House, please see the link below for hiring guidelines. For more information contact us by email, or by contacting a board member, the House Manager or the Beach Raking Coordinator.
